The following steps will guide you to enable SA in a cPanel server:

  • Login to cPanel and go to the mail section.
  • Click on the SpamAssassin icon and enable.
  • For the options, auto-delete mail and auto-add, prefix them to suspect messages.
  • Add keyword-based filtering for the Global Mail Filters or the Mail Filters, as needed.

RBL – Remote Blacklists

Enabling of RBL is a server-wide setting that is very effective to control the inbound spam messages to the server. These lists check each IP that attempts to send mail to the server against a remote list of known spammers. Mail administrators maintain these remote lists. It is a powerful tool to fight against spam in the cPanel server.

The following steps will guide you to enable RBLs in a cPanel server:

  • Login to WHM and search for EXIM using the find field.
  • ‘Exim Configuration Editor‘link is displayed.
  • Click on this link.
  • Scroll down to the RBL section.
  • Put a check in both 'RBL: BL.SPAMCOP.NET‘ and ‘RBL: EN.SPAMHAUS.ORG’.
  • Click save.

Now the server is configured to filter all the incoming mail against these two RBL lists.

Controlling Outgoing Mail from Server

Settings within WHM can limit the number of emails sent per hour and also verify the sender.

The following steps will guide you to enable RBLs in a cPanel server:

  • Login to WHM and search for tweak settings using the find field.
  • Click on Tweak Settings
  • Scroll to the Mail section.
  • Scroll down to the RBL section.
  • Set the value in the box 'The maximum each domain can send out per hour (0 is unlimited)’ to the maximum messages.

Enable Sender Verification

When the sender verification process in on, it can help to control the flow of outgoing mail, to ensure that the server is not sending out spam.

  • Login to WHM and search for EXIM using the find field.
  • ‘Exim Configuration Editor ‘link is displayed.
  • Click on this link.
  • Scroll down to the mail section.
  • Put a check to Sender Verification.
  • Click save
